John Reese – I’m Calling You Out Part 2

If you missed yesterday’s post you need to start here or your going to be lost (Click Here)

Yesterday I called out John Reese (Click Here) for deleting his entire twitter following and “starting over” as he put it.  Not only did he respond through twitter but he wrote me a “kick in the gut” comment to my post.  Hang on for a second because we’re going to come back to what is now known in my camp as the “Reese Roundhouse” in just a second.

johnreeseOk, lets remove my emotion and look at Twitter logically.  Twitter was designed to “conversate with others.”  The problem is only a few of the so called Guru’s do.  Lets start with just three that don’t; Frank Kern, Mike Filsaime and Shoemoney.  Lets look at three who have “conversated” with @ reply’s

johnchowcoachdebjohnreeseIn May I was teasing John Chow about he being part of the secret elite that controled the internet.  In June I welcomed CoachDeb to the world of MacBook and yesterday I got the “Reese Roundhouse”TM.

The best part of the “Reese Roundhouse” was how he applied it.  I wanted to be mad at the dude but I couldn’t for two reasons.  1- he was right and 2-  he was charming and right.  As a matter of fact I enjoyed the beat down so much I think everyone needs to read it except for the “go gators” comment at the end.

Michael,

First of all, no one is ignoring you or I wouldn’t be posting this. I’m posting this because you sent me an “@” message on Twitter – the beginning of a conversation. This is exactly what Twitter was meant for. It wasn’t meant for every user to follow every other user or even just ‘thousands’ of them. If you follow too many people your stream becomes flooded and there’s no way to keep up with ANYONE. It’s just too many posts. Beyond a few hundred people Twitter becomes just NOISE. It’s impossible to keep up.

I have over 100,000 customers from around the world. If I follow one, based on the example that you gave since you bought my course (which btw I sincerely appreciate your business) then it’s only fair that I follow everyone that bought products from me. Again, resulting in me following so many people that I in essence end up FOLLOWING NO ONE because I can’t keep up with all the posts.

As far as me following you in the beginning so you’d buy one of my products, that wasn’t the case at all. In fact, when I got started on Twitter I contacted my existing customers and asked them to follow me and I’d auto-follow back (before I realized the pitfalls of doing that.) So it was never about following others with the false pretense of just getting them to buy something from me. Heck, I barely use Twitter as a promotional vehicle anyway. 99% of my tweets about my daily life and have nothing to do with business.

As I stated before, you don’t need someone to follow you to build a relationship with them on Twitter. That’s the beauty of Twitter. You can post an “@” message publicly and that person will see it in their replies. Many of the people I now follow are just friends – it has nothing to do with business. I certainly follow some other marketers that I *do* do business with, but many others are just friends.

As far as your experience so far with your efforts online, i.e. spending $5K on Adwords without a sale, all I can say is that you either have the wrong product and market match or your landing page is not converting. I would assume it’s the wrong product or at least how you positioned it for the keywords that you targeted. If you’re selling RE information (and it looks like you are) then I would suggest you do some competitive research and find out where your competitors are advertising. What keywords are they running AdWords ads for? What do their ads say? What does their landing page say? What are they actually selling? How are they selling it? What copy are they using? What funnel or business model do they appear to be using? Then simply EMULATE what they are doing.

I’m sorry that you took it personally that I unfollowed you. That was definitely not my intention. I had no choice because it was either unfollow everyone and just start over following a few friends (while at the same time having conversations with people that “@” messaged me) or it was stop using Twitter all together.

And one more thing…

GO GATORS! :-)

~John~

Can you argue with that?  I couldn’t.  I went back to every @ comment I sent the guy and he has always replied.

Lesson learned.  Now it’s time to sit back, enjoy a bit of feet up time, iTunes and catch the inside of my eyelids, so I thought.

Along comes Deborah Micek (@CoachDeb) CLICK HERE I have been following her tweets for a while, i enjoy them so much I send them to my iphone.  She and I have one thing in common; we change human behavior.

Along time ago a few of my friends and I sat down to draw up what we believe to be the best distance learning model.  Meaning, we could take anyone in the world and from a distance we could teach a concept and change their behaviors.  This is what we came up with.

Knowledge
Application
Accountability
Motivation
Time

This was our “coaching model”. I have used this for years on my clients and customers and it really works.   Give your client or student some knowledge.  Let them go out and apply (application) the knowledge, keep them motivated because we know that it’s almost impossible for a person to succeed on their own.  Hold the student accountable to the plan and goals that they have created and over time, their behavior would change and they would be successful.

If John Reese was the Roundhouse then Coach Deb was the Uppercut.  She blasts me with my own coaching model and probably didn’t even know it.  Her comment is a reminder of why we continue and learn instead of pout and fold.

Michael,
May I challenge you in re: to one thing that caught my attention as though you put it in bold?

You mentioned, “Lets face it after going down $5K on adwords without a sale and another few grand in training; i’m entitled to be a little bitter.”

Are you entitled to be a little bitter?

If you hold on to that belief – that will lead you down the wrong path.

I can practically Guarantee you, that Every one of the successful internet marketers that you refer to as being “ring leaders” or the “select few” ALSO failed as much (if not MORE) than they succeeded. But they ultimately cashed in BIG – because of nothing else other than this ONE thing….

They PERSISTED.

Despite the failures (aka: “learning lessons”) they kept going forward.

Also – no one really “selected” them other than – the people who bought their products/services because they did lay down the foundation and learn from their own mistakes (trial and error) and reduced the learning curve for the rest of us.

I share that because mindset is 80% of what drives the very successful business owner. And it begins here. No one is entitled in business ownership. That’s the risk we all face. It ain’t fun – and it ain’t pretty – it’s just the facts.

So – I ask you again…
Are you entitled to be a little bitter?
orrrr…
Are you entitled to be a little bit Better with each step of the way?
@CoachDeb

Here’s how it’s applied

1- you’ve learned some things with adwords (knowledge)
2- Adwords with no sales (applicaiton)
3- The successful persisted…80% of what drives the very successful (motivation)
4- orrrr…Are you entitled to be a little bit Better with each step of the way? (Accountability or Recommit To The Plan)
5- TIME – its alwasy there

Brilliant

I’m calling out everyone who claims to be a Guru or who has had Guru bestowed upon them.  May you all follow suit and “conversate” when @’ed through Twitter.  In the mean time go buy John and Coach Deb’s stuff.

John Reese – I’m Calling You Out

Did you read this semi pile of BS????

From the blog of John Reese
“A couple of days ago, I unfollowed over 30,000 people on Twitter.  Many people are wondering WHY.  And this blog post explains why”  To read the whole Blog follow the link at the bottom of my post.

John and I, we got history
Honestly we met at 3:36 AM on my iphone.  I was struggling with a case of L.I.D. (Lower Intestinal Distress) deleting junk mail from my iphone.  I don’t know why but I started to read his email that morning and I was intrigued by its message.  I made my self a task in Omni Focus to do a little research and found out that the world claimed he is one of the best internet marketers on the globe.  I read some of his free stuff which put me on his list for Traffic Secrets 2.0.  I bought his course and inside was a FREE DVD from Frank Kern called core influence.  Core influence is one of the best 90 minutes you can spend with yourself.  This DVD change my entire seminar presentation style, content and sales pitch.

I followed John on Twitter, he followed me back @michaelacord.  I teased him about the Utah Utes being National Champions, since his beloved gators had lost a game and the Utes blew through Alabama like they were a pop warner team.  I asked some advice, he gave it to me and all this time I thought we were tight.  Then I found out that I was unfollowed along with most of the world and that he was going to limit the people he followed to “core people”.

“So let me get this straight, I was good enough to follow because you were looking for people to buy your course and now that I’ve bought your course I’m not.”

In a sarcastic post a few weeks ago, I claimed that the internet is controlled by a select few and I named John Reece as one of the “ring leaders.”  These guys are becoming like CNN.  Their flow chart to internet stardom is conflicting and confusing. “First you need a lot of twitter followers, a facebook account, YouTube and all the other social networks.  You need to sign up for my Affiliate Service, get an an auto responder, a give away product and you better reserve your spot at my next event.”

The mass confusion and subconscience noise has pushed me and a few others to abandon “the typical internet business.”  Lets face it after going down $5K on adwords without a sale and another few grand in training; i’m entitled to be a little bitter.  To date I’ve made $120.00 on the web, a referral check from Infusionsoft.  Now I write stuff and post stuff that entertains me more than anyone else and if you haven’t read my blog title – you should it’s true.

Lets be fair, John has a couple of good points about the spam and junk and noise on Twitter but what about the internet nobody who is really trying to develop relationships?  If all the Guru’s only followed each other and that’s what it’s starting to look like, how is the little guy going to compete?  This would only produce a follower / following of no-ones trying to help each other and I’ll be the first to protest your next launch.  You need me to buy your stuff and I need you to teach me all the how-to’s.  Don’t delete me, we need each other.

Last Friday I got a nasty gram from a big name Internet Guru who proceeded to argue, via a letter on why I shouldn’t embed YouTube Videos on my websites.  Allow me to entertain you with some of his comments.  “A real internet Marketer would never use YouTube to host their videos.  YouTube’s purpose is to entertain the masses and any marketer who is serious about their business knows this.  If your serious you should consider Amazon’s S3 system.”

First off, I’m a nobody.  I only have 4 readers two of which are my parents.  Second – I chose YouTube because of the 21.4 million iphones that are currently being used; that’s only the phone and not the itouch.  Iphone users can see my videos remotely at anytime right on their phones. Third – I use Amazon to host my videos that I don’t want the world to see.  Most of those videos sit in my members area and I have some secret files with some naughty time with the Mrs.  (I’m kidding……mom)

When I first started using video, I was concerned about branding but I soon learned that the numbers made YouTube a smart choice because of it’s mobile function.

Today I shoot most of my video with my Flip Mino HD, edit in iMovie and then send it up to youtube.  iMovie’s a lot easier to work with than Final Cut Express 4.0 when it comes to footage shot on the flip.  FCE requires a lot of rendering when it comes to the MP4 format.  iMovie allows me to increase the sometimes soft audio from a Flip video up to 200 X’s.

Here is my Puppy on YouTube

A Big Darn Water Slide

These all videos have been seen on the web and on mobile devices

Damn You Frank Kern – Not Really

As reflected in the inbox of your email, Mass Control 2.0 was launched again for the final time, or was it?

What did we learn?

1.    A small group of marketers with huge lists can make a dramatic impact on the outcome of a product sale – That’s not a conspiracy it’s a fact.
2.    The self-made entrepreneur is dead.

Networking or relationship building is key in every business.  From Real Estate to Internet Marketing and every business in between, the survival of a business depends on the networking skills of the owners, operators and managers.

The jealous few (yours truly) who haven’t built those relationships in the Internet world will always be looking from the outside in and we’ll always be slightly pissed off when we hear “Mass Control Still Created a MILLION DOLLAR WEEKEND.”

Who’s fault?  Mine!   Maybe I should take my own advice except this time I’ll put a little spin on it like this; “Now go out there and start talking with people.”

“Now Go Out There And Start Talking About Me!”

I Have The Proof

A few weeks ago I ate some bad Chinese food, went to bed, woke up sick and in a panic believing that the Internet is controlled by a small group of people.

I wrote (3) three blog posts about it, I said my piece and went on my way.  Hours after the last post, a guy shows up at my house and asks if I would participate in an “internet survey” – go figure.

The next morning I notice a guy and a gal dressed in MIB outfits driving a black four door following me to my favorite establishment for RedBull – now they’re on to me.

I got a little hate mail, which is cool because no one knows who I am.  I got a couple of hate text messages telling me to “shut up” about my conspiracy theory.  It’s been very exciting for me, I feel like I’m in the middle of the pelican brief.

Here is a quick summary
I believe that the top internet marketers meet quarterly at a secret location somewhere in Pacoima CA to discuss who’s launch is next and how they can dominate the world and split up their revenues equally.  It’s a simple theory with no fact until today.

I would have never caught on to their system but these bright minds of marketing made a mistake.  In the past, their emails came in over several days and I would read them and delete them.  Today all of the emails came in on one day and I would have never caught on if they had continued to spread them out over several days and weeks.  I believe something large is out on the horizon and it’s coming soon which is why all of the email was rushed

I received and email from everyone on the list below.  Every one of those emails announced some new video series from the over handsome and kind of irreverent Frank Kern (or Triple H you can chose)

•    Jeff Walker
•    Eban Pagen
•    Ryan Deiss
•    Ryan Wade
•    John Reese
•    Jeff “Herschy” Schwerdt
•    Ben Brooks
•    Frank Kern (Himself)

I own some of their products and most are good

Frank has another friend named Mike Filsaime so I’m betting he sent an email to his list.  I bought some of Mike’s products, got up sold at lease 5 times and then got an email daily about buying more products so I unsubscribed.

How many people are on those gentleman’s lists?  I don’t know but I’ll bet its over One Billion subscribers.  If you had access to those numbers could you control the Internet?  I sure would like to try.

I guess we should call them the EF Hutton on the Web.

Michael Acord – “Almost An Internet Celebrity”

This is not a buy my stuff statement and I’m not trying to sell you a thing.  For the last 14 years I have been teaching people how to make money.  Something happens in their life and they wake up and say, “I deserve more, I’m going to go out and stake my claim.” It can be a job loss, a death, an over demanding boss / spouse or the inner voice that says I deserve more. I have seen this “stake my claim” desire in people’s eyes, heard it in their voice and have seen their urgency in the body language at my seminars.

I believe the nation suffers from the “double H F” cycle.

You read some great sales copy that’s seems to be written just for you.  You get all excited, the emotions kick in and before you know it your reaching for your Amex card to make the purchase.  You take your new business home and you start to implement it but life gets in the way and soon your business is put on the shelf, never to be heard from again until something happens in your life that causes the “I deserve more” attitude.

The double H F Cycle is you hear the Hype, make the purchase, go Home and implement but Fail.

Now you play the blame game.  So who gets blamed when the above scenario happens, is it the product / course or you?  99% of the time the blame goes to THE PRODUCT / COURSE, when the blame should be placed on you.

When You Made Your Purchase You Never Had A Chance.

Every answers can be found in “Just Quit” 6.2 reasons you probably won’t amount to jack squat.

Get your copy below.  Your information is never sold, I hate spam just as much as you and you can opt out at any time.   Or, you can continue doing what your doing and never fix the Double H F Cycle.

This is a huge moment for me.  Its huge because everyone on the web, including you, wants to be recognized, acknowledged, and talked about.

On Friday I wrote the second installment of who controls Internet.  Click Here to read it.  If you ask me, it’s the best post on the entire Internet for May 8th 2009.

Since I talked about JohnChow and ShoeMoney in the post, I decided to send them a tweet hoping they would read it.  I know if either one of them read it, they would comment about its flair and uniqueness and I would possibly get some recognition and some global discussion (talked about).  This is the goal.

I‘ve had some unique experiences with twitter and I’ve talked about how I, as a nobody on the web, thought I was spending a lot of time talking to myself and how I thought no one was listening.

Imagine my surprise when this showed up
johnchow

For those of you who don’t know JohnChow, is a very popular blogger who shows and talks about how to make money online.  He has a great ebook on “how to make money online.”  GET IT!  I learned a lot from his FREE download.  He has a large following on twitter and a large audience for his blog.   With all of that, he took time out of his day to acknowledge my post.

What’s the point?  In a round about way I am apologizing to Twitter.  If I didn’t send the Tweet, I wouldn’t have gotten a reply from JohnChow.  Maybe I should start thinking about reserving my star on the internet walk of fame or maybe I should wait until I hear from ShoeMoney.

ShoeMoney, you can still get in on this,  I’m waiting for your comments from who controls the internet part 2.

Please leave a comment, subscribe to my RSS channel. Now go out and start talking about me.

Who Controls The Internet Part 3

In “who controls the internet” part 1 – I discussed how a “small close-knit group of people has the power to magnify the epidemic potential of a message or idea.”

In part 2 – I talked about two groups of people, Mavens and Connectors and how we are all striving to be a connector. When you’ve achieved the status of a connector, your lists are huge and your launches are profitable. Every man wants to be you and every woman wants to be with you. (apply your gender accordingly)

In part 3 – I wish I could take credit for this but I can’t. One of my 3 readers sent me this video which explains this “small group of people” that control the internet, each boasting about their latest launch domination and how huge their……lists are. Big thanks to Karl aka MyCoachMentor for the video.

Leave me your thoughts in the comments below.  Now go out and start talking about me : )

Who Controls The Internet – Part 2

This is a follow up to yesterday’s discussion on “who controls the internet”.

Did you get your emails today?  You know the one’s talking about the big launch?  I can’t tell which launch because that would make me a contributor.

Yesterday morning my email starts to go nuts from that “small group” of Internet marketers talking about this next big thing.  I read my JohnchowDotCom and he’s talking about it.  I read my Showmoney and he’s talking about it.

I now have a clear understanding, I have snatch the pebble and I am no longer grasshopper and here is why.

It all became clear because of a book called “Tipping Point”! For those of you that haven’t heard about Tipping Point; it’s a discussion about an idea, trend or social behavior crossing a threshold (tips) and spreads like wildfire.

Twitter – fits the definition of a tipping point.  The twitter universe grew by word of mouth and the rest is history.

Malcom Gladwell wrote “Tipping Point.”  Gladwell talks about two groups of people, Mavens and Connectors.
•    Mavens – are people who know a lot of things.  They are the sources we turn to for facts and figures.  I simple call them the people who know a lot of stuff.
•    Connectors – These are people who know a lot of other people.  Connectors have the credibility, experience, “proof” and when they talk other people listen.

If you blog, have a membership site, write an article; lets just say if your trying to capture your corner of the world wide web, the goal is to become a connector.  When everyone knows you or has heard about you and is talking about you, that’s when you have the power to blog for cash, launch a new membership site, sell a course and the world will buy it.

Am I jealous of this “small group” who controls the Internet?

ABSO-FREAKIN-LOOTLY.

We all want to be in that “group”.  This is why we keep buying their stuff, because we know their latest and greatest will get us more recognition, create more connections, which allows us in some cases to write our own checks.

Now in case you forgot, my name is Michael Acord, now get out there and start talking about me.  Here’s a better idea, leave me a comment, subscribe to my RSS channel and then start talking about me.

Who Controls The Internet?

I was thinking about my twitter experiment today and about traffic.  I know I need traffic, you know you need traffic.  It seems that it takes forever to generate consistent traffic.

My traditional ways of attracting students include; place an ad in the newspaper or send out a direct mail piece for a seminar or speak at different investment clubs.  During those events I ask the attendees to make a decision and either join me in my members area or become a coaching student.  That’s the traditional model.  Web 2.0 says old school combined with social media marketing, video promotion, list building and blogging should be used as well.  At the end of the day a combined old school and new school marketing plan should increase traffic.

Traffic, Traffic, Traffic!

If traffic is the name of the game, who are the big players when it comes to driving traffic?  I have a hunch, but I want your opinion.  Is there a certain group of people that control the Internet.  I know it’s a crazy thought but the other day I got a tweet from a very well know Internet Marketer who was having a big meeting with another group of well known internet marketers.  These are the same people who have been doing the big launches for the last few weeks and they all seem like they are the best of friends.

Do you remember, “tipping Point”?  Gladwell said, “Small close-knit groups have the power to magnify the epidemic potential of a message or idea.”

Is this “small group”, all of them with huge lists, massive twitter followers and promoting a collective message of “traffic, sales psychology / persuasion, list building and video promotion”, are these the controllers of the World Wide Web?
